Sejarah Manchester United

Klub ini pertama kali dibentuk dengan nama Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club (Newton Heath L&YR F.C.) pada tahun 1878 oleh para pekerja rel kereta api di Newton Heath.

Mereka bermain di sebuah lapangan kecil di North Road, dekat stasiun kereta api Piccadilly Manchester selama 15 tahun, sebelum pindah ke Bank Street di kota dekat Clayton pada tahun 1893. Kostum tim berwarna hijau emas.

Tim sudah menjadi anggota Football League setahun sebelumnya (1891-1892) dan mulai memutuskan hubungannya dengan stasiun kereta api, menjadi perusahaan mandiri, mengangkat seorang sekretaris perkumpulan, dan menghapus nama belakang "L&YR" menjadi Newton Heath FC saja.

Pada tahun 1902, tim nyaris bangkrut dengan utang lebih dari £2500. Lapangan Back Street mereka telah ditutup. Sebelum tim bubar, mereka menrima investasi dari J.H. Davies, direktur Manchester Breweries.

Awalnya, kapten tim, Harry Stafford, memamerkan anjing St. Bernard miliknya. kemudian, Davies memutuskan untuk membeli anjing itu. Stafford menolak, tapi dia berhasil mempengaruhi Davies untuk menanamkan modal untuk tim dan menjadi chairman tim.

Setelah itu, mereka mengadakan rapat untuk mengganti nama klub. Manchester Central dan Manchester Celtic adalah nama yang diusulkan. Namun, Louis Rocca, seorang imigran muda asal Italia, mengusulkan nama Manchester United.

Usul Rocca pun disetujui dan nama Manchester United resmi dipakai pada 26 April 1902. Davies juga memutuskan untuk mengganti warna tim dari hijau emas menjadi merah putih sebagai warna tim Manchester United.

Pada musim 1905-1906, mereka akhirnya promosi ke Divisi I setelah finish diurutan kedua Divisi II (foto atas). Musim pertama mereka di Divisi I menempati urutan ke-8 di klasemen. Pada akhirnya, mereka memenangkan gelar liga pertamanya pada tahun 1908.

Dua tahun kemudian, mereka memenangkan trofi Liga di Divisi I untuk kedua kalinya pada musim 1910-1911. United pindah ke lapangan barunya di Old Trafford. Mereka memainkan pertandingan pertamanya di Old Trafford pada tanggal 19 Februari 1910 melawan Liverpool.

10 Penemuan Aneh dan Unik National Geographic 2010

1. Gempa Chile

Gempa di Chile Februari 2010 lalu konon begitu kuat sampai bisa menggeser poros bumi serta memperpendek siklus hari.

Gempa berkekuatan 8,8 SR yang mempercepat rotasi bumi itu adalah kelima terkuat dan berhasil memperpendek hari di Bumi sebesar seper 1,26 juta detik.

Angka ini didapat dari perhitungan komputer oleh ahli geofisika dari NASA, Richard Gross.



2. Galaxy

Pada tahun 2008, para ilmuwan menemukan ratusan klaster galaksi bergerak ke arah yang sama dengan kecepatan lebih dari 2,2 juta mil (3,6 juta kilometer) per jam.

Gerakan misterius ini belum dapat dijelaskan. Jadi, para peneliti menduga bahwa klaster-klaster itu sedang ditarik oleh gravitasi yang berasal dari materi di luar bagian alam semesta yang sudah terdeteksi.



3. Kadal Ular

Inilah bukti transisi evolusi dari reptil ke mamalia. Menurut sebuah penelitian, ternyata ada spesies kadal Australia yang tidak bertelur.

Di sepanjang pesisir dataran rendah bercuaca hangat di New South Wales, kadal biasanya bertelur untuk mereproduksi keturunan.

Tetapi, ada spesies yang sama yang tinggal di dataran tinggi di pegunungan dingin yang berkembak biak dengan melahirkan seperti mamalia.



4. Ikan yang Bisa Berjalan

Ini adalah ikan aneh, yang menggunakan sirip untuk berjalan, bukan buat berenang. Ikan merah muda ini adalah salah satu dari 9 spesies baru dari keluarga handfish.

Penentuan spesies baru dilakukan berdasarkan sejumlah faktor, termasuk jumlah tulang dan sirip, warna, adanya sisik dan duri, serta ukuran tubuh yang proporsional.

Bahkan di antara spesies lain yang pernah dikenal, ikan-ikan berjalan ini belum banyak, sehingga sangat sedikit yang diketahui soal struktur biologis maupun perilakunya.




5. Amazon yang Bersejarah

Ratusan bentuk lingkaran, kotak, dan bentuk-bentuk geometris lain, yang tadinya tersembunyi di Amazon, sekarang diketahui sebagai peninggalan masyarakat kuno yang tak diketahui sebelumnya.

Citra satelit telah memotret daerah ini sejak 1999 dan mengungkap lebih dari 200 tanggul-tanggul geometris yang mencakup luas lebih dari 155 mil (250 kilometer).




6. Black Hole

Alam semesta kita boleh jadi berada di dalam sebuah lubang hitam yang dia sendiri merupakan bagian dari alam semesta yang lebih besar.

Menurut teori, semua lubang hitam yang ditemukan sejauh ini adalah gerbang menuju realitas atau semesta yang lain. Menurut sejumlah teori, lubang hitam sebenarnya adalah terowongan antar semesta.

Materi yang disedot lubang hitam tidak hancur seperti yang diperkirakan sebelumnya, melainkan menyembur keluar dari "lubang putih" di semesta lubang hitam yang lain.



7. Ikan Aneh di Greenland

Wujudnya seperti makhluk luar angkasa dari film-film fiksi. Ini adalah spesies ikan anyar yang baru-baru ini ditemukan di perairan Greenland.

Mereka tumbuh hingga 17 cm panjangnya dan adalah 1 dari 38 spesies ikan yang ditemukan di sekitar pulau Arktik.



8. Kelelawar Papua

Ini adalah kelelawar berhidung tabung pemakan buah. Binatang yang disebut "Kelelawar Yoda" ini adalah salah satu dari sekitar 200 spesies yang ditemui selama 2 ekspedisi ilmiah ke Papua Nugini pada tahun 2009.

Meski sudah diketahui pada ekspedisi sebelumnya, kelelawar jenis ini belum didokumentasikan secara resmi sebagai spesies baru dan belum ada namanya.

Di ekspedisi tersebut ditemukan 24 spesies katak, 2 mamalia, dan hampir seratus serangga baru.



9. Kapal Nabi Nuh

Sebuah tim petualang dari Kristen Evangelis mengklaim bahwa mereka telah menemukan sisa-sisa bahtera Nuh di bawah salju dan puing-puing vulkanis di Turki.
